Where's Margie's Money?

52 Tasks in 52 Weeks

One of the blogs I’ve recently discovered, I’m an Organizing Junkie, is hosting a year-long challenge called 52 Weeks of Organizing. I’m a little late for the party but I decided that I’d still join in the fun.  I’m blaming this on my urge to nest as well as my desire to live minimally.

On Sunday I walked around the place with a notebook and scrutinized all the problem areas, creating a list of tasks. My goal is to complete one item off the list each week (some are easy while  some will require more time and even a little money). The list doesn’t have to be completed in order but I’ll link to this post in my side bar so I can revisit it easily and update/cross off tasks as I go!

Here’s my list:

1. Go through the stack of Real Simple magazines – pull recipes that I want to try and recycle the rest. Done! 3/20/2011

2. Go through the bookcase and donate, post to paperbackswap or trash books DH and I are never going to pick up again. Done! 4/30/11

3.  Organize my knitting baskets in the living room.

4. Clean/wash the sliding glass door and 3 living room windows. (Cleaned 3 living room windows on 4/30/11, Cleaned sliding glass door on 5/21/11)

5. Clean/wash the dining room and kitchen windows. (Cleaned Kitchen Window on 3/31/11)

6. Rent a rug doctor and give the carpets a good steam cleaning. (Done in July 2011)

7. Figure out a better system for organizing our DVDs – donate DVDs we’ll never watch again.

8. Figure out a better system for dealing with mail and the other crap that ends up on the little table by the front door.

9. Clean/organize the basket of stuff by the door that has become a “catch-all” for random things I have no idea what to do with. Done! 5/15/11

10. Figure out a better place to store/organize yoga mats, weights, and other work out gear.

11. Boot up old lap-top and finally transfer any files and photos I want to keep.  Then donate/recycle computer. (Transfered files on 3/31/11)

44. Help DH organize his half of the closet – donate/trash unwanted clothes and shoes.

48. Organize Christmas decorations.

49. Repot/Pot plants on front porch.

50. Frame and hang wedding pictures. (Done July 2011)

51. Go through box of wedding “stuff” and figure out what to do with everything in there.

Whew!  That’s a lot of stuff to do . . . but I love having a list so that I never have an excuse not to cross at least ONE thing off each week!

  1. I love the orgjunkie site, such a great resource!

Good luck with your list. It looks like a lot but the fact that you’ve got a whole year to get it done makes it much more manageable 😀
